Here it is...

I was uncomfortable with the name of my store for a while.

The name came during my devotional time and while it seemed interesting, I kept thinking, there are better names.  Finally being the curious person I am I researched olive trees.  I was, of course, aware of the Mount of Olives but wanted to see where was God leading me.

Let me give you two facts about olive trees ....

  • Olive trees require a long hot summer and cool but not freezing winter.
  • Olive trees have extensive root systems.

I began to think olive trees are like Christians.

How, do you ask?

The long hot summer are our tough times, our valley times.  Those times when we are figuring out -

  • Lord, what is it that I am to get out of this season?
  • Is my focus wrong?
  • Lord, why is this not working?

Time in the valley allows us to have experiences, thoughts, hopes, and fears that define us.  It is when we are figuring out our gifts Romans 12:6-8. That time in the valley makes us unique.   All that valley time is getting us ready to be a light on the hill Mt 5:13-16, the yeast in the bread that brings others up Mt 13:33, 1 Cor 5:6.

All that = long hot summer.

A strong root system is necessary with the irregular rain and the long hot summers.  Our strong root system, the thing that keeps us firmly on the ground, is HIS word.

His word being the B-I-B-L-E.  When you spend time in the Bible you get your nutrients and water that keep you alive.

Deuteronomy 8:3  And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.

In Matthew chapter 4 after Jesus is baptized, he goes into the wilderness and is tested.  Guess what he uses to resist the devil... the scriptures!

Colossian 2:6-7 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him,  rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Matthew 22:29

Olive Grove Life is about accepting this lifestyle.   The preparation to become the best light, salt, or yeast we can be and the scripture we will use to keep us fed.

My purpose is to help you be that light or yeast or salt in the world and my tool of choice is his words.
