Unlimited Access to the Wonderful Counselor: Overcoming Mom Struggles With Jesus
Share
I am very open about my going to see a counselor. I have been through a few in my lifetime. As a Christian mom I want to be the best Christian, mom, person, daughter, wife and sister I can be. Recently I went all in and was very open with her about results I wanted to get from our time together.
Early on my goal was simply for her to be a safe space for me to process thoughts.
I feel like some of my forward movement can be traced to my counselor.
And while I think my earthly counselor has been helpful it is my heavenly one that has moved the needle in my life.
While earthly counselors have office hours and scheduling constraints, our Wonderful Heavenly Counselor is available 24/7. No appointment needed, no waiting room required. Isn't that incredible? When anxiety hits at 3 AM or worry strikes during your morning commute, He's right there, ready to listen and guide.
Think about it - Jesus knows us better than any earthly counselor ever could. He doesn't need us to fill out intake forms or explain our family history. As Psalm 139:1-2 tells us, 'O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar”.
Counselor is defined by Oxford Language as a person trained to give guidance on personal, social, or psychological problems.
Understanding Jesus as Our Wonderful Counselor
Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
But Jesus isn't just any counselor - He's our Wonderful Counselor. That word 'wonderful' isn't just a nice adjective. In the original Hebrew, it implies something extraordinary, miraculous, beyond human capability. So when we say Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor, we're talking about guidance that goes beyond human wisdom and understanding
Unlike our earthly counselors (as helpful as they can be), Jesus:
- Never needs to take notes
- Doesn't have to ask about our past
- Understands our thoughts before we speak them
- Knows exactly what we need for healing
- Has perfect timing in His guidance
- Never gets tired or burned out from listening
I don’t know about you Christian momma but I get a little weary from all the decisions and talking that goes on sometimes so it is wonderful to be able to count on Jesus.
And you know what's beautiful? There's no issue too small or too big to bring to our Wonderful Counselor. Every concern that weighs on your heart matters to Him.
Sometimes we might think, 'Oh, I shouldn't bother God with this - He has bigger things to deal with.' But that's not how our Wonderful Counselor works. He cares about everything that affects His children, from the smallest worry to the largest crisis.
Common Struggles Christian Moms Face
Navigating the Challenges of Christian Motherhood
I can say that being a mom is a beautiful journey, but it also comes with its unique set of challenges, especially for those striving to balance family life with their faith. I don’t know about you but there have been times when I am grappling with struggles that can feel overwhelming at times. Thankfully, we have unlimited access to the Wonderful Counselor, who provides guidance and strength through every hurdle. Let's explore these challenges and discover how turning to Jesus can help us overcome them.
Balancing Family and Faith
In the whirlwind of daily responsibilities, it's easy for faith to take a backseat. Yet, integrating spirituality into family life doesn't have to be daunting. By incorporating prayer into your family's routine or sharing Bible stories during bedtime, you create an environment where faith flourishes naturally. For myself my faith and relationship with God is what gives me the strength to persist and to maintain harmony at home.
Decision Fatigue in Parenting
Parenting involves making countless decisions every day, leading to decision fatigue that can drain your energy and spirit. When faced with tough choices, lean on Jesus for wisdom and clarity. Prayerful reflection can illuminate the path forward, providing peace of mind that you're making decisions aligned with your values.
Spiritual Leadership at Home
As a mom, you're often seen as the spiritual leader within your household—a role that carries immense responsibility. Embrace this calling by modeling Christ-like behavior in everyday interactions. Encourage open discussions about faith and involve your children in community service projects to nurture their spiritual growth alongside yours.
Overcoming Self-Doubt and Mom Guilt
Self-doubt and mom guilt are familiar foes for many mothers. It's important to remember that perfection isn't the goal—authenticity is. Jesus accepts us as we are; imperfections included. Whenever self-doubt creeps in, turn to scripture for reassurance of your worthiness and capability as a mother loved by God.
Finding Time for Personal Spiritual Growth
Amidst caring for others, finding time for personal spiritual growth can seem impossible. Prioritize moments of solitude where you can connect deeply with God—whether it's during early morning quiet time or while taking a walk outdoors. These moments will refresh your soul and equip you better for motherhood's demands
How Jesus Counsels Us Through Daily Challenges
You know those days when motherhood feels like you're trying to juggle flaming torches while walking on a tightrope? (Yeah, we've all been there!) Well, let me share something with you – Jesus, our Wonderful Counselor, has multiple ways of reaching out to guide us through these daily challenges. Let's chat about how He does this!
Through His Word
You know what's incredible? The Bible isn't just some ancient book – it's literally God's love letter to us! When I'm feeling overwhelmed with mom life, I love how Jesus speaks directly to my situation through Scripture. It's like having a heart-to-heart with your wisest friend who always knows exactly what to say.
For example, when you're:
Feeling inadequate? He whispers through Philippians 4:13, "You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you."
Overwhelmed with decisions? James 1:5 reminds us that He gives wisdom generously when we ask!
Exhausted? His gentle invitation in Matthew 11:28 calls us to come to Him and find rest.
Through Prayer
Oh mama, this is where it gets really personal! Unlike our earthly counselors (who are wonderful, by the way!), Jesus doesn't have office hours or a waiting room. Remember what we talked about earlier? He's available 24/7! Whether it's:
- During those 3 AM feedings
- In the carpool line
- While folding that mountain of laundry
- During those precious shower moments (maybe the only quiet time you get!)
Prayer isn't about perfect words or special formulas – it's just honest conversation with our Wonderful Counselor. Pour out your heart, share your struggles, even your frustrations. He can handle it all!
Through the Holy Spirit's Guidance
This is like having a personal spiritual GPS! The Holy Spirit is Jesus's presence right here with us, providing:
- Those gentle nudges when we're about to lose our patience
- That peace that passes understanding when everything feels chaotic
- Those "aha moments" when we suddenly know exactly how to handle a situation with our kids
- That quiet reassurance when mom guilt tries to creep in
Remember, just like we can tell our children's different cries, we can learn to recognize the Holy Spirit's gentle whispers in our hearts.
Through Christian Community
Jesus often counsels us through the beautiful gift of Christian community. This might look like:
- That text from a fellow mom at just the right moment
- The wisdom of a seasoned mother in your church
- A friend who shows up with coffee and a listening ear
- Your small group that prays with and for you
Real-life Examples of His Counsel in Action
Let me share something personal (because we're all in this together!). Just the other day, I was struggling with mom guilt about working and home commitments. As I poured my heart out to Jesus, He counseled me through:
- A timely devotional that popped up on my phone
- A scripture that came to mind from years ago
- A peaceful assurance in my heart while praying
The beautiful thing about our Wonderful Counselor is that He knows exactly how to reach each of us in ways we'll understand. Sometimes it's through a Bible verse that suddenly takes on new meaning. Other times, it's through that song on the radio that speaks directly to your situation. Or maybe it's through your child saying something that gives you a completely new perspective on God's love.
Remember, sweet friend, Jesus isn't just interested in the big decisions – He cares about every detail of your mom life. From choosing the right school for your kids to handling tantrums in the grocery store, no concern is too small for our Wonderful Counselor.
Practical Ways to Seek Jesus's Counsel
Hey there, sweet friend! You know how we talked about having unlimited access to our Wonderful Counselor? Well, let's get super practical about how to tap into this amazing gift, especially when life feels like it's moving at lightning speed!
Creating a Daily Prayer Routine
You know what's beautiful about Jesus? He doesn't need us to have a perfect prayer setup or a Pinterest-worthy prayer corner (though if you do, that's awesome!). Remember what we discussed earlier - He's available 24/7, no appointment needed!
Here's how we can make regular connection points with Him:
Morning Moments: Even if it's just while making your coffee (I know, mama - coffee comes first sometimes!)
Drive-time Dialogues: Turn your commute into communion time
Kitchen Counter Conversations: While preparing meals, let it be your altar of prayer
Laundry Basket Liturgies: Who says folding clothes can't be holy ground?
The key isn't perfection - it's persistence. As we said earlier, He doesn't need us to polish our prayers or make them sound spiritual. Just come as you are!
Scripture Meditation Techniques
This isn't about checking off a Bible reading plan (though those are great!). It's about letting God's Word sink deep into your mom heart. Try these approaches:
Choose a "Mom Verse of the Week" - maybe something like Psalm 73:26: "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
Use the SOAP method:
Scripture: Read it
Observation: What stands out?
Application: How does this help me today?
Prayer: Talk to God about it
Remember those Psalms we talked about earlier? David poured out everything to God - his fears, his anger, his joy. We can do the same!
Journaling Your Conversations with God
Just like we discussed being open with our earthly counselor, we can be completely honest in our journal conversations with Jesus. Try these prompts:
- "Dear Jesus, today I'm struggling with..."
- "What I really need counsel about is..."
- "Thank you for showing up when..."
- "I'm noticing You working in..."
Write down those "ha! I was right!" moments we talked about, or the times when He challenges you to push through self-imposed limits.
Finding Quiet Moments in Busy Mom Life
Let's be real - finding quiet time as a mom can feel like trying to find a matching sock in the dryer! But here's how we can create little sanctuary moments:
- Wake up 15 minutes before the kids (I know, it's hard!)
- Use naptime wisely (even if you can't get them all to nap at once!)
- Create a "quiet corner" in your house
- Use bathroom breaks as prayer breaks (hey, sometimes that's the only alone time we get!)
Remember what we said about those 3 AM moments? Sometimes our most precious conversations with our Wonderful Counselor happen in these unexpected times.
Building a Support System of Fellow Christian Moms
Just like we need our earthly counselors sometimes, we need our Christian mom tribe! Here's how to build one:
- Join a church small group
- Connect with moms at your kids' activities
- Create a prayer partner system
- Start a Bible study coffee group (because Jesus and caffeine make everything better!)

Biblical Examples of God's Perfect Counsel
Hey there, sweet friend! You know what I love about the Bible? It's filled with real stories of real people who needed God's counsel just like we do. Let's dive into some of these stories that show us just how amazing our Wonderful Counselor has always been!
Stories of Biblical Mothers
Oh mama, if you ever feel like you're not enough, these biblical mothers will remind you that God has always been guiding imperfect mothers with perfect love!
Hannah's Story:
Struggled with infertility and deep heartache
Poured out her raw emotions to God at the temple
Received counsel through Eli the priest
Trusted God's timing and was blessed with Samuel
Modern Mom Application: Just like Hannah, we can bring our deepest hurts and unfulfilled dreams to our Wonderful Counselor. He hears every tear!
Sarah's Journey:
Dealt with waiting and doubt
Tried to "help" God's plan (hello, control issues - sound familiar?)
Learned to trust God's perfect timing
Experienced joy beyond her expectations
Modern Mom Application: When we're tempted to take control instead of waiting for God's counsel, remember Sarah's story!
Mary's Experience:
Received unexpected news that changed everything
Chose to trust God's plan despite uncertainty
Stored up and pondered things in her heart
Witnessed both the joy and pain of God's calling
Modern Mom Application: Like Mary, we can choose to trust our Wonderful Counselor even when His plan seems overwhelming or unclear.
Psalms of David in Times of Struggle
Remember what we discussed earlier about David's raw honesty with God? Let's look deeper at how he received counsel through different situations (and how it applies to us!):
Psalm 22 - When You Feel Abandoned:
"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
David felt completely alone
He poured out his heart honestly
He remembered God's faithfulness
He ended in praise
Mom Application: When you're having one of those days where everything feels overwhelming, you can be this honest with God!
Psalm 69 - When You're Drowning in Responsibilities:
"Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold."
David felt overwhelmed
He was worn out from calling for help
He kept seeking God despite his exhaustion
Mom Application: When motherhood feels like you're drowning, our Wonderful Counselor is your lifeline!
Psalm 34:18 - When Your Heart is Breaking:
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
Reminds us that God draws especially near in our pain
Shows us that being broken isn't a barrier to receiving counsel
Promises God's saving help
Mom Application: Those moments when you cry in the shower or in the car? He's right there with you!
Jesus's Personal Counsel in the Gospels
Let's look at how Jesus, our Wonderful Counselor, interacted with people who needed guidance:
Martha's Kitchen Moment:
Overwhelmed with serving (sound familiar?)
Jesus gently redirected her focus
Reminded her of what truly matters
Mom Application: When we're caught up in our to-do lists, Jesus offers the same gentle reminder about priorities.
The Woman at the Well:
Jesus met her in her daily routine
Offered her living water
Knew her story but didn't condemn her
Mom Application: Jesus meets us in our daily mom moments too - at the sink, in the carpool line, during midnight feedings.
Modern-Day Applications
Now, let's bring this all home to our modern mom life:
When You Need Direction:
Like David, pour out your heart honestly
Like Mary, ponder things in your heart
Like Hannah, persist in prayer
Like Martha, listen for gentle correction
Practical Modern Applications:
Start a "God's Counsel Journal":
Write down your raw prayers
Record His answers
Note Scripture that speaks to you
Document your "ha! I was right!" moments (remember we talked about those?)
Create Prayer Triggers:
When you fill your water bottle (remember the woman at the well)
During daily chores (think of Martha)
While rocking your baby (like Mary pondering)
Build Modern-Day Support:
Share your struggles with trusted Christian friends
Join a mom's prayer group
Find a mentor mom who points you to Jesus
